Carpe Diem?

There's many people that agree that life is too short, but do these people actually live it up?Although it's a cliche', carpe diem is a phrase commonly used to say 'seize the day', and this video quite possibly goes hand-in-hand with the philosophical term.As I scanned youtube the other day, I came across the group devinsupertramp, a group of friends that defines carpe diem just about everyday!Time flies without realizing it.. so make sure you catch it and grasp each moment as it may be your last!Enjoy.

Strongest Dad in the World

Eighty-five times he’s pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in marathons. Eight times he’s not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a wheelchair but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars – all in the same day.

Dick’s also pulled him cross-country skiing, taken him on his back mountain climbing and once hauled him across the U.S. on a bike. Makes taking your son bowling look a little lame, right?

And what has Rick done for his father? Not much – except save his life.

This love story began in Winchester, Mass., 43 years ago, when Rick was strangled by the umbilical cord during birth, leaving him brain-damaged and unable to control his limbs.

“He’ll be a vegetable the rest of his life,” Dick says doctors told him and his wife, Judy, when Rick was nine months old. “Put him in an institution.”

But the Hoyts weren’t buying it. They noticed the way Rick’s eyes followed them around the room. When Rick was 11 they took him to the engineering department at Tufts University and asked if there was anything to help the boy communicate. “No way,” Dick says he was told. “There’s nothing going on in his brain.”

“Tell him a joke,” Dick countered. They did. Rick laughed. Turns out a lot was going on in his brain.

Rigged up with a computer that allowed him to control the cursor by touching a switch with the side of his head, Rick was finally able to communicate. First words? “Go Bruins!” And after a high school classmate was paralyzed in an accident and the school organized a charity run for him, Rick pecked out, “Dad, I want to do that.”

Yeah, right. How was Dick, a self-described “porker” who never ran more than a mile at a time, going to push his son five miles? Still, he tried. “Then it was me who was handicapped,” Dick says. “I was sore for two weeks.”

That day changed Rick’s life. “Dad,” he typed, “when we were running, it felt like I wasn’t disabled anymore!”

And that sentence changed Dick’s life. He became obsessed with giving Rick that feeling as often as he could. He got into such hard-belly shape that he and Rick were ready to try the 1979 Boston Marathon.

“No way,” Dick was told by a race official. The Hoyts weren’t quite a single runner, and they weren’t quite a wheelchair competitor. For a few years Dick and Rick just joined the massive field and ran anyway. Then they found a way to get into the race officially: In 1983 they ran another marathon so fast they made the qualifying time for Boston the following year.

Then somebody said, “Hey, Dick, why not a triathlon?”

How’s a guy who never learned to swim and hadn’t ridden a bike since he was six going to haul his 110-pound kid through a triathlon? Still, Dick tried.

Now they’ve done 212 triathlons, including four grueling 15-hour Ironmans in Hawaii. It must be a buzzkill to be a 25-year-old stud getting passed by an old guy towing a grown man in a dinghy, don’t you think?

Hey, Dick, why not see how you’d do on your own? “No way,” he says. Dick does it purely for “the awesome feeling” he gets seeing Rick with a cantaloupe smile as they run, swim and ride together.

This year, at ages 65 and 43, Dick and Rick finished their 24th Boston Marathon, in 5,083rd place out of more than 20,000 starters. Their best time? Two hours, 40 minutes in 1992 – only 35 minutes off the world record, which, in case you don’t keep track of these things, happens to be held by a guy who was not pushing another man in a wheelchair at the time.

“No question about it,” Rick types. “My dad is the Father of the Century.”

And Dick got something else out of all this too. Two years ago he had a mild heart attack during a race. Doctors found that one of his arteries was 95% clogged. “If you hadn’t been in such great shape,” one doctor told him, “you probably would’ve died 15 years ago.”

So, in a way, Dick and Rick saved each other’s life.

Rick, who has his own apartment (he gets home care) and works in Boston, and Dick, retired from the military and living in Holland, Mass., always find ways to be together. They give speeches around the country and compete in some backbreaking race every weekend, including this Father’s Day.

That night, Rick will buy his dad dinner, but the thing he really wants to give him is a gift he can never buy. “The thing I’d most like,” Rick types, “is that my dad sit in the chair and I push him once.”

There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. So, love the people who treat you right. Think good thoughts for the ones who don’t. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of life…Getting back up is LIVING.

As I was watching an episode of Jimmy Kimmel the other day, he featured three musician-like people that performed something that I had never seen before. It seemed awkward at first, but when the music started to flow, it was like nothing I had heard before! So as I sit here, I feel as if we should all get our biggest friend, and try it out!Just kidding.. but sounds like a dandy time to me haha.Enjoy

The Walk Home

Last class of the week finished, and I trudged through the doors like I had just graduated, only to be surprised by the sound of the snow hitting the ground. Not a place to look without seeing the white sky. This is the moment when I realized I was all alone.Only footprints had surrounded me, and for once, I loved it.A place that contains thousands of students like myself, had seemed so discrete and almost abandoned. This was the place that I call home, and in this moment, I grasped how amazing my life was,and how these almost infinite crystalline structures that fell, had changed everything in just a single moment.Learn to appreciate the little things in life..

Attention Please!

As I was in class the other day, my professor stumbled upon the most amazing video about a professional pick pocketer. This man, Apollo Robbins, uses accesses certain parts of his brain very well when tricking his victims.Through simple logic of deception, he's able to distract our 21st century minds and take what he can. When you watch this, try and count all of the items he takes!I don't even think I can..

All you need is a pep talk..

Sometimes, we exhaust our minds by stressing out about the simplest things, when in reality, you just just need to take a step back and relax before you continue. Not many things are as important enough to take away your sleep or life as you may assume, but when that time comes, and you're ready explode, it could come as simple as having a pep talk to relieve what you're feeling. It's amazing how this boy, Kid President, is able to make words so simple yet captivating to all types of viewers.Take a look!

Lazy Sunday

For some of us, Sunday is the day to: sleep-in, go to church, gather with family, watch football, or numerous other things, but some of us just choose to be lazy as can be.A laziness that has it's own definition, from waking up past noon, to not making the slightest effort to eat until dinner time.If you're under the age of 22, then I know you just grinned, because this statement at one point or another defined your daily summer routine, if not most sundays.Anyways, being the huge fan of Saturday Night Live that I am, I recommend you watch this video Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg! If you dislike The Chronicles of Narnia, then beware!Lol. Enjoy.

Me: Holy shit.
Cat: Meow.

Meow

So today I realized how clever cats are, and after many years of having one, I would much rather have a puppy.Anyways, over the years I came to acknowledge this certain look that my cat would express when I came home.. almost like it was guilty of something.I mean, every time I came home it was the same look.. and then it would say, "meow", doesn't that sound guilty to you?Well, I found this video on youtube today, and it seems that I wasn't the only one being fooled..

New video coming out soon!

Hello people of the world, just wanted to let all of you know that tonight we began filming "Dorm Life #1", and it went great!Hopefully the product is as humorous to you as it was myself, because nobody here could contain themselves (thanks to K-roots)!Anyways, we're shooting for a release on our new youtube page sometime this next week.I'm super stoked, and I hope all of you are too!Feel free to message us with any ideas you have for another video!

Late Night Thoughts

Do you ever find yourself laying in bed, thinking about that one important thing that has been stressing you out, and realize when it's too late that the sun is almost up?Well as I sit here eating my mediocre ramen, a meal that is necessary for the average freshman like myself, I realize that there is so much going on in the human brain.Everyday we wake up and tend to our jobs or school, and we are enriched with information that'll be useful for our futures, but at the same time, we are dealing with our personal lives.Whether you're married, have a girlfriend/boyfriend, or just living like Hef; there's some kind of stress that is introduced into your mind, and can cause that sleepless night. The thing is.. sleeping is the only time of day when you can escape everything, and many people including myself, don't value it as much as we should. No matter how comforting it is to visit with friends or go hard at a party, you learn that nothing goods arises after 2a.m., so you might as well be sleeping..

The English Surprise

So today in my English class, my professor found it crucial that we stay a couple minutes to view a youtube segment on what we had discussed in class earlier. As I was already disinterested in the lecture because of it's repetitiveness to earlier classes that I've taken, I became hesitant to stay after to view this video.Once it came time, a friend of mine claimed that the character from the video was hilarious, so I dropped my stuff and settled in again, but only to be surprised! This wasn't a video that I would ever anticipate seeing in class!Lol.

Awkward Sundays

So, recently I was at a barbecue with some friends of mine, and we ate burgers on burgers! After awhile, it was time to get in the pool, but not all of us had digested everything yet.. and apparently Jerry didn't realize this until it was too late!Just kiddin', but still watch this video!

Fly like an eagle.. literally!

Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to fly?I realize that Michael Jordan can answer this question, but maybe you should think about it.Not only are you given the persona of a superhero, but you're also being set free.In this clip, imagine what the toddler was feeling!
